The search for a proper cup

Traveling around the country, I’ve learned something the hard way: a good cup of coffee is harder to find than it should be. You stop in a small town, hopeful, and end up with scalded milk or stale beans. It makes for a sad morning.

But every once in a while, you find the real thing. Fresh beans, someone who knows what they’re doing, and suddenly you’re holding something worth savoring. You sip it and think, “Now that’s a proper cup of coffee.” It changes your whole day.

I wanted to be able to make that feeling at home, so I started roasting my own. What began as a weekend experiment has become a genuine passion—sourcing beans from around the world, learning what makes each origin unique, and obsessing over every batch until it’s something I’m proud to share.

This isn’t my day job. It’s the thing I do because I love it. Every bag of Proper Coffee is roasted by hand, in small batches, by someone who actually cares whether your morning cup is worth waking up for.

That’s what “proper” means. Coffee done right.
